Supporting Cleft Palate & Craniofacial Research, Education and Patient Care

Save the date and join us on World Smile Day!

We’re hoping to be fully back on the Duke Medical Campus for our 4th annual Smile Stand Event!   Amazing items provided by local vendors—get ready for a day full of fun!

Our fundraising supports all components of Team care at Duke, but each year we want to bring awareness to an aspect of cleft and craniofacial care.  This year we are highlighting craniofacial orthodontics, a specialized type of care where not only the teeth, but dental arches, jaw and palate, are manipulated by a skilled orthodontist to maximize chewing, speech production and aesthetics.

Stand Hosts

There are many specialized craniofacial orthodontic treatments that children may need throughout their care with the Duke Team, as a newborn through adolescence.

This year’s Smile Stand hosts will be telling their special journey through craniofacial orthodontic care!

Craniofacial orthodontic techniques can prevent surgery in patients with cleft or craniofacial conditions.

Yet orthodontic care is often not covered under insurance plans for children with cleft and craniofacial conditions. Despite the unique structure of the head, mouth and jaw that is impacted by clefts and other craniofacial conditions, patients have to pay out of pocket for most orthodontic care, even when medically necessary.

Duke strives to provide equal care to all kids.  This year’s fundraising aims to support the research and care initiatives at Duke so that the best techniques can be created and validated.

We enjoyed being a part of it so much and it is certainly a day we will never forget.
