Craniofacial orthodontic techniques can prevent surgery in patients with cleft or craniofacial conditions.
Yet orthodontic care is often not covered under insurance plans for children with cleft and craniofacial conditions. Despite the unique structure of the head, mouth and jaw that is impacted by clefts and other craniofacial conditions, patients have to pay out of pocket for most orthodontic care, even when medically necessary.
Duke strives to provide equal care to all kids. This year’s fundraising aims to support the research and care initiatives at Duke so that the best techniques can be created and validated.
