2nd Annual Smile Stand: Unmask The Smiles

Sep 01, 2020 @ 12:00am - Oct 02, 2020 @ 11:59pm

Duke Medicine Circle, Durham, NC 27710

Scars and facial differences do not define a person.

Our ‘Unmask the Smiles’ campaign aims to encourage individuality and promote confident, strong people of all ages.

Be different. Be awesome.

Details

People with cleft and craniofacial conditions endure significantly more than just cosmetic corrections and may experience judgements and stereotypes that lead to self-esteem issues, social rejection or withdrawn personalities.

We recognize that scars or facial differences do not define a person.  Rather, individuals should be celebrated for the unique, strong person inside.

Make a Statement

With the new challenges brought on this year, we’ve developed a mask to spread the message that being different is awesome.

We stand for people who are proud of who they are.  We want everyone to embrace being “different” and recognize the challenges that all types of people face — to be inspired and to motivate others.

We are strong on the inside and we’re all smiling together underneath!

Be the Change

The Duke Cleft and Craniofacial Center has a mission to minimize surgeries and maximize results.  They develop treatment plans and supportive care so that patients look and feel like everyone else.

Supporting Duke University’s initiative for minimizing surgeries lessens the emotional and social impact on children with cleft and craniofacial conditions, but also decreases the costs to our healthcare system.

Wesley’s care has and will continue to be about so much more than cosmetics. Our team at Duke Children’s has worked on so much – his feeding, hearing, speech and language, social and emotional health, orthodontic and more. It’s amazing how it all comes together!
